Soap stars get in a lather at Swindon's Wyvern Theatre

Soap stars get in a lather Soap stars get in a lather

WHO better to appear in a comedy about a soap opera than some of Britain’s most famous soap stars?

Soap comes to the Wyvern Theatre next week. It’s about what happens when a new producer is brought in to liven up ‘Hollyenders Street’, a show that’s been on air for 15 years but whose viewing figures have never been lower.

The cast reads like a list of soap royalty from the last two decades. Most famous of all is Leslie ‘Dirty Den’ Grantham. He’s joined by Chris Ellison, who played The Bill’s DI Burnside for many years, Eastenders veteran Michelle Gayle, and Louis Emerick, who played Mick Johnson in Brookside and later played PC Wash in Last of the Summer Wine.

Also appearing is Kev Orkian, a comic and musician who was a Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist in 2010.

In Soap, the new producer of ‘Hollyenders Street’ decides that the best way to revive the show’s flagging fortunes is to cut characters, spice up the storylines and even rewrite the theme tune, but not everybody is happy with the changes and soon a body is discovered.

Soap will be at the Wyvern on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7.30pm, and there will also be a 2.30pm Wednesday matinee.

Tickets cost £18. Call the box office on 01793 524481 or go to www.wyverntheatre.org.uk.
