A Swindon technology company has been ranked one of the best in the UK in tomorrow’s Sunday Times. Ubiquisys, based at the Wind-mill Business Park, is a telecoms services provider, which employs around 90 people.

It has seen business increase by 152 per cent over the past three years with sales of more than £14m, selling one million of its mobile phone network boosters. Solar Communications of Chippenham, which has 50 employees, is a communication systems provider and its business has increased by more than 60 per cent over the past three years with sales of more than £8m. The six companies have made a major contribution to the local economy despite the tough economic conditions. Together they employ 515 people and have achieved combined sales of £74m. Ubiquisys was the top company in the region and made it onto the league table for the first time. Under chief executive Chris Gilbert, sales grew 152 per cent a year, from £881,000 in 2008 to £14m in 2011. Said Mr Gilbert: “We are delighted we have ranked so highly in the Tech Track 100. “This reflects our exceptional growth in recent years due to an increasing recognition of the benefits of small cells, and our heritage for ongoing technology innovation “A small organisation, founded in Swindon, has transformed into a global telecoms market player with deployments both in the UK and worldwide in countries like Japan, France and the US. “With enduring commercial interest from mobile operators, the sky is the limit for our continued development and profitability.”

The Tech Track 100 league table and awards programme is sponsored by Hiscox and Barclays, and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based networking events and research company. Steve Langan, MD of Hiscox said: “Just as London 2012 will inspire young athletes, so too should the stories behind these Tech Track companies inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. “Brainy, tenacious and above all hard working, these privately-owned businesses deserve every bit of recognition for their important contribution to our economy.”

Two-thirds of the companies on the league table either have international operations or plan to grow overseas in the near future. These include renewable energy developers, consumer websites, and telecoms providers.
