PRINCESS Jasmine was given a royal welcome to this year’s pantomime when she visited Royal Wootton Bassett.
The star, played by Lauren Varnham, and Aladdin, played by Liam Ross-Mills, met the town’s mayor Mike Leighfield, and town crier Owen Collier yesterday.
They were celebrating joining the Wyvern Theatre’s pantomime production, which will also star TV personality Keith Chegwin.
Lauren, 23, who is currently starring in We Will Rock You, said she is looking forward to appearing on stage in Swindon.
“The whole show is going to be amazing. There is so much talent within the cast we have got so far,” she said.
“We are all big singers so there should be some really big musical numbers. I can’t wait to meet Keith Chegwin.”
About 11,500 tickets for the pantomime have been sold so far out of a possible 29,000, which is 500 more than this time last year.
Aladdin will be taking place at the theatre from December 8 until January 6.
Liam, 20, said: “The audience are going to have a good time. I am there to make everyone happy and get in the Christmas spirit.
“I am very excited and nervous. It is my 21st birthday on December 9 so I’ll be in Swindon for that.”
The genie will be played by Suzie Chard and David Ashley, who was an ugly sister in Cinderella last year, will be starring as Abanazar.
Tickets range in price from £14.50 to £23. Visit www.wyverntheatre.org.uk or phone 01793 524481.
