A SALON in Gorse Hill proved to be a cut above the rest this week after holding a fundraising day in support of a cancer charity.

Altered Images, in Cricklade Road, hosted a charity day and blow-dry-athon on Tuesday to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Owner Kelly Phillips came up with the idea and is delighted the event has raised more than £170 so far, with money still coming in.

Kelly, who has worked at the salon for the past seven years, said: “We’ve never done anything like it before but it went really well so we are hoping to hold another one again soon.

“I got the idea after I saw the pink GHD straighteners being sold to raise money for a breast cancer charity so I thought we should get together and do our bit.

“We usually all work different days but people came in on their days off and gave up their own time, which was great.

“We had about four or five of us in and we were charging £5 a blow dry - people were giving us the extra £1 or £2 here and there and we had a raffle and a few other things going on in the salon.”
