A DRESSING-up session proved the perfect way to help children learn how to cross the road.

About 12 youngsters from the Co-operative Childcare nursery, based at The Great Western Hospital, were taught to stop, look and listen during an interactive road safety session on Tuesday.

They were taught using a mock road play area and miniature road signs, and will continue to use the equipment all week.

As part of the session they also had the chance to dress up as a bus, pedestrians and lollipop people to re-enact road safety situations.

Leanne Lloyd, leader of the three to five-year-olds room, said: “It is really important to teach them about road safety because they are at that age where they are going to go off to school and need to know the basics of crossing the road.

“They were taught how to cross the road safely, to always have an adult close by, and the children learnt a poem too.”

The children were taught about the importance of seatbelts and were also given pictures to colour in and take home.
