The glory days of the Majestic Ballroom will be brought to life again in the 13th annual celebration, but this year there added appeal.

There will still be dancing to the timeless dance band sounds of the Les Bruce Big Band, who make a welcome return.

But as well as reflecting the dance hall days of the 1940s-70s, this year the organisers are also hoping to attract the younger rock ‘n’ rollers, who kicked up their heels when the Majestic closed in 1961 to become the Locarno and then McIlroy’s Ballrooms.

Rockers Re-United will be getting everyone up and jiving when they reunite especially for the dance night.

Rockers Reunited is a band made up of six musicians who played in the most popular local rock ‘n’ roll bands in Swindon in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Expect some firecracker music at the Majestic dance night on Saturday, November 3, from 7.30pm to midnight.

All proceeds from the dance will go to the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton. In the past 13 years the dance has raised more than £70,000 for the charity.

The dance will be held at the Stratton Community Centre, Grange Road, Stratton St Margaret, Swindon.

Tickets are £12.50 and £10 for children (15 years and older only.) The first event, in 2000, was intended as a one-off reunion of the Majestic Ballroom in Swindon.

But it was so successful, both in the response from a capacity crowd and the resultant donation to the Prospect Hospice, that it has been repeated annually ever since.
