FIREFIGHTERS in Stratton took part in a national car wash for the Firefighters Charity on Saturday.

Crews deployed hoses and sponges at the station in Highworth Road to wash cars in return for donations.

They also provided information about being safer in the home and out on the roads.

Stuart Hardingham-Graveling was among firefighters who took part in the effort.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Louise Knox said: “The charity provides help to serving and retired personnel, their widows and widowers and young dependents through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy, as well as giving financial support to those who need it.”

The charity works with some 11,000 beneficiaries every year at a cost of £9m for each year, and these services are financed almost exclusively by fundraising.
