Swindon Town legends game raises hearty sum in memory of coach John Hathaway

A CHARITY football match in memory of a former Swindon Town coach and featuring boss Paolo Di Canio has raised thousands for the British Heart Foundation.
The game between Fairford Town FC and a Swindon Town Legends XI in August raised £1,007 and the cheque was presented last week.
The match was held in memory of Fairford player and Swindon coach John Hathaway, and saw a host of former Swindon regulars turn out, including David Duke, Ian Woan, Jerel Ifil, Paul Bodin and Alan McLoughlin, as well as the Robins’ current manager.
Fairford went ahead with an own goal before Di Canio levelled with a neat run and finish. Former Swindon, Yeovil and Hereford midfielder Jamie Pitman put his side ahead again with a header, but an impressive finish from Fairford’s Rob Simpson levelled the game at 2-2 before the break.
Second half goals from Andy Caton and David Duke gave Swindon a 4-2 win in front of a crowd of just under 300, who enjoyed a fun afternoon of football at Cinder Lane, Fairford.
A cheque presentation took place at The County Ground on Thursday with Fairford Town chairman Mike Tanner handing over a cheque to Alison Rosier, BHF fundraising volunteer manager.
