In part two of our exclusive interview, X Factor sensation Jahmene Douglas tells MATTHEW EDWARDS about coping with his new found fame

JAHMENE has been treated to a glimpse of what life could be like for him if he wins the X Factor.

The 21-year-old has had a full makeover including teeth whitening and a photo shoot for Heat Magazine.

Jahmene is now settling into life in his new surroundings in the contestants’ house, which is in a top secret location, and he is getting on well with all the other competitors.

He said: “I think people expect there to be fighting but we are all one big happy family.

“I know that sounds a bit sad but that is how it is. “We are all just singers who want to do well in this competition.”

Jahmene is a hot favourite to win the show – he started as favourite with the bookies at the beginning of the show with odds of only 5/1, but he has drifted recently as nerves appear to have got the better of him in the pre-recorded episodes of the ITV1 show. Jahmene will be performing live for the first time on Saturday and although he would not give away what he will be singing, he says that he will give his all to give a knockout performance.

He said: “I will be rehearsing my song as much as I can between now and Saturday’s show.

“People watching can expect my heart on Saturday.”

But Jahmene will have to overcome his nerves if he has hopes of progressing in the competition.

At boot camp Jahmene was seen having a panic attack before he took to the stage after the singer put in a lacklustre performance of Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger. Ahead of the performance, Jahmene admitted he had never heard the song before and didn’t even know who sang it.

He was pulled up on his performance by judge Louis Walsh, who said “it just didn’t work”.

Jahmene told the panel of judges he wasn’t a fan of the song choice, which was a far cry from the Etta James hit At Last he chose to sing in his first audition.

With boot camp behind him though he says that the worst part is over and he will feel at home when he takes to the stage.

“I think I have just got to take it step by step and look at the bigger picture to overcome my nerves.

“The live shows is the part where I am confident, I am not looking at it as a competition. “Singing is where I feel comfortable.” Jahmene is hoping to pay back the faith that was put in him by X Factor mentor Nicole Sherzinger, who took a gamble after his impressive acoustic performance of the David Guetta song Titanium.

“Nicole is just amazing, she gives a lot back and talks to you. “Everything she says is real.” The first live show kicks off on Saturday night at 8pm on ITV1.
