Swindon library marks World Mental Health Day

VISITORS to Swindon’s Central Library had their mood uplifted yesterday as part of World Mental Health Day.

To mark the special day, many of the council’s libraries, including the Central Library, had displays of ‘Mood Busting Books’ – books chosen to boost your mood.

As well as this, the Central Library also had a stand manned by Ridgeway Mindful Psychology, who provide help and guidance for ‘enhancing well-being and preventing low mood and anxiety’.

A spokesperson for the World Health Organisation said: “World Mental Health Day raises public awareness about mental health issues.

“The day promotes open discussion of mental disorders, and investments in prevention, promotion and treatment services.

“This year the theme for the day was ‘Depression: A Global Crisis’.

“Depression affects more than 350million people of all ages, in all communities, and is a significant contributor to the global burden of disease.

“Although there are known effective treatments for depression, access to treatment is a problem in most countries and in some countries fewer than 10 per cent of those who need it receive such treatment.”
