Launch of a health walk in Wroughton near Swindon
10:47am Friday 12th October 2012 in News
PEOPLE looking for gentle exercise and the opportunity to make new friends can take advantage of a new Health Walk being launched in Wroughton next week.
The walk starts on Thursday and will meet at 10am at Ellendune Community Centre.
The new route is part of the nationally accredited Walking for Health scheme and is one of nine weekly health walks taking place around the borough every week.
Swindon Health Walks are free weekly walks that are beneficial for all ages and abilities. The overall walking pace will be brisk and steady without making walkers breathless. The walks offer regular activity in Swindon’s local communities and neighbourhoods.
Each walk is led by a trained volunteer walk leader. People will walk for about 45 minutes at a fairly brisk pace for health, covering a variety of paved routes around Wroughton. The walk will be followed by refreshments and socialising at the community centre.
Moya Pinson, 70, who joins a local health walk every week, said: “It’s good to have a weekly guided walk to look forward to. I find the pace of the walk stimulating, and it’s been a good way to explore Swindon and make new friends.”
There is no need to register in advance. To find out more about this walk or others, call 01793 465413 or visit www.challengeswindon.org.uk.
