5:25pm Thursday 18th October 2012 in News By Matthew Edwards
Liden Lagoon where a woman was wrestled to the ground today
Police are investigating an attempted sex attack on a lone woman at Liden Lagoon this afternoon.
The woman, who was out walking her dog, was grabbed from behind by a man in his 40s.
He wrestled her to the ground and tried to remove her trousers while clamping his hand over her mouth. But the woman managed to break free and run home.
She was left with injuries to her neck from the struggle.
The attack happened between 1.40 and 1.50pm.
The attacker is described as white, and approximately 40, with, a shaved head but possibly some blonde hair.
His victim said he was of a large, fat build.
He was wearing a dark blue zip up fleece top and dark jogging bottoms.
Police cordoned off part of the lagoon this afternoon while looking for evidence.
Detective Sergeant Tom Ellerby from Swindon CID said: “This was a particularly nasty assault where the victim has been pushed to the floor with some force. This has been extremely distressing for the victim who has acted courageously in fighting her attacker off.
“As a result of this incident, we have immediately increased police patrols in and around the area.
“It has happened in broad daylight and so I would urge anyone who was in the Liden Lagoon area at this time or might have any information, no matter how big or small, to contact Wiltshire Police immediately.
“All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
Anyone who was in the Liden Lagoon area between 1pm and 2pm or may have seen the attack can call DS Ellerby on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
