Industrial estate is no place for the sex trade

IF Swindon's Coun Michael Dickinson is serious in suggesting moving prostitutes onto industrial estates, he hasn't given much thought to his proposal. I would like to enlighten him on a few facts:

l There are a lot of decent, hard-working women of all ages employed on these estates, and the last thing they would want to greet them on turning up for work is used condoms scattered all over the place.

l Most factories on these estates run a shift system. This indicates that women are turning up for work at all hours, day and night; I would suggest that these workers could be placed in danger of being accosted by estate crawlers.

l A number of dog owners use these estates to exercise their pets, and a dog's nature is to sniff, smell and lick. What diseases are they likely to pick up from the cast off condoms of satisfied clients?

Why don't you let the grounds of the Civic Offices, or the council depot be used for this purpose? Or why not set up a brothel on each estate with car parking and washing facilities?

This would allow prospective customers to shop around for the best deal they might even be lucky and get two for the price of one.

Moving prostitutes to trading estates is not the answer to the old age problem. It is unlawful, and until the courts exercise their full rights the trade will carry on.

You should be working to clear the town of prostitution, not sweeping it under the carpet.
