HAS anyone found a Burma Star Association badge in the street in Purton? One of our members lost his while walking between The Cedars and the war memorial on Remembrance Sunday November 8. It means a lot to him and he is very keen to be reunited with it. If anyone can help please contact me at Freshbrook Evangelical Church, Worsley Road, Freshbrook, Swindon SN5 8NU. IN Emma Streatfield’s report on the burnt out bungalow at Barbury Castle, Saturday, Oct 31, Roger Hayes was right when he said Swindon Council cannot run a rural small holding. The Wilts County Council’s small holdings were started after the First World War for ex-servicemen. There were two at Ogbourne St George, one at Stratton St Margaret, one along the Wootton Bassett road and one at Barbury Castle. I’m sure there were a lot more but I can’t remember them. read more

PLEASE don’t get me wrong but there is never any mention about the Cyprus trouble in the 1950s, where 371 service personnel were killed by the guerrilla organization EOKA. read more

  • Letter from John Hughes

THIS morning I parked in the multi storey park adjoining House of Fraser. I checked the menu of prices before leaving the car park. It advised the charge was £1.20 for the first hour. On my return 20 minutes later I inserted my parking ticket and was charged £2. The same thing had happened to me last week. When I went to look for the attendant last week nobody was about. Today I found the attendant and asked why the difference in the charge. read more
