The 25th anniversary of the launch of GWE in Swindon, formerly known as the Swindon Development Agency has been celebrated.
An event was held at the regular meeting of the old railway workers at The Lounge in the community centre, with the Mayor of Swindon and the Chief Executive of Swindon Borough Council and key figures from GWE past and present.
Since 1986, the organisation has been committed to helping the community by providing help and advice to businesses.
Over the years, through partnership working, pre-empting and being innovative, GWE Business West has assisted in the creation of many jobs and continues to provide a range of services which encourage economic growth across a wide geographical area.
Norman Hayes, the first Chief Executive of GWE, said: “I really can’t believe it’s been 25 years since the start of the Swindon Development Agency.
Originally we thought it would only last three years and here we are celebrating our 25th anniversary and still helping businesses in the local community.”
Nicky Alberry, the current chairman of GWE Business West said: “It is really pleasing to see 25 years on that the legacy of the closure of the railway works still thrives in Swindon.”
