It's has been a decidedly dodgy few days at the shoe. We have all had a tummy bug. I will not go into the details but put it this way, the word "horrific" springs to mind. The poor overworked washing machine has been pushed to the limit and I think we have gone through several litres of flat lemonade. Thankfully, though everybody seems to be on the mend again now.
Isn't it funny how when you casually mention to someone that you have had a tummy bug, they automatically take a step or two back, when talking to you? In fact, I have felt quite lonely and isolated in this little shoe and so have the kids. I will be glad to get back to normal (our version) tomorrow, just as long as nobody decides to throw up again please, no!
My eldest daughter, Amy 8, who brought the bug home for us all (nice child!) is off to a sleepover at her best friend's house tonight, then tomorrow they are all off to Thorpe Park. So I am busy playing the neurotic mother right now and I am feeling more than a tad nervous about it! Now don't get me wrong, I know her best friend's family are brill and I trust them to look after her, but, arrrghhh! She is going to a "theme park" It would not be so bad if she was a little more on the timid side, but she is not. In fact her sense of adventure is equal to that of Evel Knievel's! I have banned the extreme sports channel after catching her watching and declaring loudly that she couldn't wait to try the wall of death!
I don't even want to think of the sorts of rides she will be going on tomorrow. In one way, not being there scares me and in another way I am glad that I am not there to see! One good thing though, she is blessed with being a short arse like her mother, so the thought of height restrictions are giving me a little reassurance!
Our favourite ages with the kids were 6-12. Eight and nine being the best. They are so bright and full of life, no worries just fun I remember feeling your same fears. It all comes out in the wash, as you stated in your blog! The twins are 5 months old now and look nothing alike. Noah is 4 and fearless. To see him help his mum with the girls is awsome. I'll take all the credit!

Glad you are all feeling better after your tummy bugs, (it is great what the kids bring home we hand head lice last week).
I know from my wife that is impossible for mum's not to worry about their children but do please try and relax about the trip to the theme park, all the rides are designed and checked to give the illusion of risk whilst being very safe. Climbing trees and trampolines in the garden are in truth far more of a risk.

I can not believe it either, 1/2 a year past. I think Kim is going for the grandma of the year award! We really enjoy spoiling them then sending them home! They have since moved to our little town and are beginnning to make progress. Having raised Noah the better part of the first 3 years of his life, ( his biological father is a real looser, and about a year ago was deported back to New Zealand), He loves being close to Pappas house. We are able to go fishing and camping often. I taught him how to cast a line last weekend! At 4 he can fish all by himself now. Other than that, it is all work for us, We own a fireplace company, mirage stone, and work together too, that is when she is not " watching the twins"! 20 years ago we would have laughed at anyone saying we could sell fireplaces on the internet.

Jon, Thanks for your words of comfort, I have been trying to tell myself all afternoon,
"Climbing trees and trampolines in the garden are in truth far more of a risk."
She has not long got back and is full of it! She had a fab day!
Re: the headlice, I sympathise as we have this problem frequently. The best method I have found is using tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner and using a nitty gritty comb to wet comb through, twice a week. The comb seems expensive at £9.99 but, it keeps the problem under control and when you think what you would spend on different solutions, full of chemicals, if you didn't use the comb .....
