MERE-based business Hill Brush Company swept up one of the biggest accolades at the Enterprising Wiltshire Awards 2015, after being named Business of the Year and receiving £2,000 from Wiltshire Council.

Located on Woodlands Road, the company supplies high quality brushes and cleaning equipment, even to the royal family having held a royal warrant since 1981.

Founded in 1922, Hill Brush’s products are distributed to more than 90 countries including the US, Canada, China and India and were also named Best Manufacturer at the awards.

Commercial director Charles Coward collected the awards from Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott and Paralympics swimmer Stephanie Millward from Box at the ceremony held at the Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort near Calne.

Mr Coward said: “This award is recognition for the efforts and commitment of our entire workforce – not just this generation, but over the last four generations.

“Hill Brush is going from strength to strength: we have just received planning permission and great support from Wiltshire Council for a new 10,000 square metre factory, which will also include a visitor centre, a product training centre, museum, shop and café.

“This presents an exciting new opportunity for the business and provides further tourism opportunities for Wiltshire and the Mere area.”

Six other winning businesses were announced at the awards, all of which will receive £1,500 from Wiltshire Council.

Chris Simpson, senior business manager at the Wiltshire Business Support Service, which runs the awards, said: “Hill Brush is a market leader and a tremendous advertisement for the Wiltshire business community.

“Their products are used globally and they provide a real, tangible boost to the local economy.

“It’s a great pleasure to be able to highlight the company’s success.”
