NKS Contracts Central has won a £3.5m electrical testing and electrical upgrade programme on behalf of Swindon Borough Council for the next two years and will now be recruiting about 20 more staff in the area.

The company was initially awarded the contract to carry out aids and adaptations construction work on behalf of the council in 2013.

NKS specialises in construction for local councils and housing associations and Its core business involves upgrading of housing stock to include extensions, kitchen and bathroom re-modernisation.

Established in 1998 in the Gloucestershire area, NKS is expanding across the south of England and the Midlands through growth and the award of a number of long term contracts.

As it emphases employing local labour and is committed to providing structured training through apprenticeship programmes with local colleges, NKS now employs more than 150 people - a number which it says will increase with the award of the borough council contract.

“We are committed to working with and supporting the development of the local community," said director Jason Titcombe.

"We always look to develop long-standing relationships with the local supply chain and to provide long-term employment opportunity for local people.”

Nick Lacey, of Stroud District Council which NKS Central also works for, said the firm had delivered “real and positive change to tenants”.

He added: “Their consistently high standard of customer service saw them awarded the title Contractor of the Year 2013 by our tenants.  They have invested in our local economy by employing local people, using local suppliers, and being a proactive supporter of apprenticeship schemes.”

NKS is holding a recruitment fair at Blunsdon House Hotel on Wednesday, October 7, between 9am-6pm as it is looking for all types of trades people, including directly employed personnel and sub-contractors.
