AUTHOR John Jukes will give a talk for budding entrepreneurs at Desk Cowork tomorrow.

This is the first in a series of bi-weekly talks launching at Desk that will help engage and bring together freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners in and around Swindon.

Mr Jukes aims to help encourage those who are struggling to launch their big ideas with a talk on the parallels between the entrepreneurial experience, and the film The Martian by Ridley Scott. It can be lonely and difficult setting up a business, but there’s often a support system around to tap into.

This is the philosophy at Desk, a co-working space set up by founder Matt Greenwood to give aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners the chance to work in an inspiring creative space, rather than at home or in coffee shops.

Along with the benefits of being able to work in an environment that feels professional as well as creative, Desk gives members the opportunity to meet and work alongside other like-minded people and to build a network.

Mr Greenwood said: “I’m really excited to be launching our bi-weekly talks this Friday. These events will give entrepreneurs and business owners in Swindon another opportunity to come together socially, whilst listening to some interesting people talk about their own experiences in business.“We’re really lucky to have the entrepreneur, business owner, project manager and author John Jukes to entertain and educate us at our first talk. John will give us an insight into what the world of an entrepreneur is really like, so come along and join us for a beer.”

The one-hour talk starts at 8pm. Tickets, from deskcowork.co.uk, are £3. Members go to all Desk events for free.

Desk, based in Devizes Road in Old Town, is the only co-working space of its kind in the centre of Swindon, and opened officially with its launch event last Tuesday. There are a range of different memberships available.
