A Swindon primary school is looking to win business men and women on to their board of governors.

The idea is to help children understand the workings of the world of industry and provide a path for them to learn the necessary skills to succeed in their chosen career.

Members of Swindon Chamber of Commerce have been approached by Red Oaks Primary School to become school governors.

School governors play a key role in making schools more successful and provide a vital link between them and the local community.

Deb Rogers, the clerk to the governors, said: "Schools such as ours have. High targets to improve standards in education.

"It is vital that children have the necessary skills to be able to adapt to rapidly changing job roles.

"Organisations like the Chamber can play an important role in helping schools to achieve these targets by providing members with appropriate skills to become school governors."

Ginette Gower, Head of Marketing & Communications said: "We really encourage business people to become School Governors as it gives a chance to give something back and use professional experience to help improve education."
