If the UK stays in Europe or leaves as a result of the EU referendum next month, it is unlikely to make much difference to the HR and employment laws in this country.

That is the opinion of Lauren Harkin, a senior associate with the Swindon lawyers Withy King, when she was speaking at an employment law seminar organised by the Swindon Chamber of Commerce.

Lauren has extensive experience across a wide range of employment law matters and spends her time advising both local and national businesses as well as individual employees and senior level directors.

At the seminar she said that as far as Europe is concerned the laws regarding employment there was a better deal for both employers and employees than the rest of the majority of the countries in the EU.

These included the laws which affected holiday pay; those that affected race and disability and the minimum wage. Should the UK leave the EU these current laws are unlikely to be altered and of course if the UK voted to stay then there will be no changes to employment.

The seminar was held at the Zurich Employment Services in Swindon and the other speakers were Ben Thompson of the Thompson and Terry Recruitment company and Jeanette Harris, HR Business Partner with Global Life, Zurich.
