Keen gardeners in Marlborough and Pewsey now have a new family-run garden centre on their doorstep to keep their green-fingers busy.

Whitehall Garden Centre, near Chippenham, which also owns and operates Whitchurch Garden Centre in Norton Lane, Bristol, has acquired their third garden centre using a finance package from Barclays.

The award-winning and family-owned independent garden centre group operating since 1894, has purchased Woodborough Garden Centre a well-established business with approx 16,000 sq ft of covered area on an 18-acre site, serving customers in the north east of Wiltshire including Marlborough, Pewsey and Devizes.

Peter Self, Managing Director, of Whitehall Garden Centres, said: “ We’ve been looking for a third centre for a while, we believe that Woodborough is the perfect addition to Whitehall Garden Centres due to its location and homely feel. We are looking forward to the development and future of Whitehall Woodborough.”

Whitehall Woodborough as it will be renamed, will keep all 17 current jobs at the Garden Centre, with further vacancies anticipated in the future.

Martin Crook, Barclays Relationship Director at Barclays, who put together the funding package for the deal, said: “It’s great to be able to support a market leader with a clear strategic plan and we believe there is an exciting future ahead for Whitehall Woodborough.

"The family firm has big plans and are building on their excellent reputation, which in turn will continue to support local jobs and the rural economy.”
