A TERMINALLY-ill grandfather was afforded one last holiday thanks to the Adver’s Christmas Wish appeal.

Roger Allen, 82, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2012, and was given just 12 months to live. He passed away on April 27 this year. But not before he could enjoy a mid-week break with his wife Brenda in a luxury lodge at Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

Brenda, of Highworth, never regretted her decision to nominate her husband for the Christmas Wish.

“Roger had a scan on Christmas Eve and we got the diagnosis on December 28,” she said.

“They said it was lung cancer and there wasn’t anything they could do about it. They could only give a better quality of life.

“During all this he had to have injections in his vocal chords as he lost his voice due to the tumour pressing on the nerve leading to the chords.”

The pair travelled to Bluestone National Park Resort in January.

Again this year, the Adver is calling on readers to nominate kind-hearted loved ones for the Christmas Wish appeal, which will run from December 11 to Christmas Eve.

Roger, who had seven grandchildren and five children, was diagnosed with prostate cancer ten years ago and was in remission when he was told it had spread to his lungs.

Speaking to the Adver following the news of his nomination, he said: “I am overwhelmed. I had no idea Brenda was nominating me for the Christmas wish. Brenda has been absolutely brilliant and has always been there for me.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped to make this holiday happen.”
