Friends of Max Lewis gathered last night to celebrate his life with a candlelit vigil at the site where he died.

The crash site in Forest Lane, Melksham, has been transformed into shrine for the 19-year-old covered with flowers, emotional messages and candles.

Fireworks were also let off as a tribute to the popular former Melksham Oak Community School pupil.

Police still want to speak to two drivers who they believe were driving at speed and in close proximity to Max and 22-year-old Dan Palmer on Saturday just after 3pm.

They want anyone with information to come forward so they can establish how the accident happened.

Max’s brother, Dan, posted on Facebook: “Thank you to everyone for the massive love and support that is being shown for the loss of our darling Max.

"We know how very hard this is for all his lovely friends, but if you can help us to understand what happened, please please come forward. We feel no blame just terrible sadness.

"We would not usually post something so personal to Facebook, but we know we will reach far more of his friends.”

Teacher David Greenwood has also taken to Facebook to express his shock.

He said: “As a teacher I remember Max fondly from George Ward. Am absolutely gutted at this news and really feel for all his family and friends. RIP Max - such a lovely lad x”
