A lorry which was blocking a road for over three hours on a hill in Goatacre has been removed by three tractors.

The 36-tonne lorry was due to make a delivery to Lyneham air base when it got stuck in Quakers Lane.

Wiltshire Police were called at 8.43am and advised drivers to stay away from the area.

The driver of the lorry was following a sat-nav but failed to get to the top of the small hill before rolling down and across the road.

PCSO Mark Cook said: “It’s a tiny tiny village, he just turned off too soon and subsequently got stuck, it was a bit of a nightmare.”

Corton Kennels and Cattery on the road remained open throughout the disruption, allowing police vehicles to use their car park.

The lorry was eventually recovered and the road fully clear just after 1pm.
