MODEL train enthusiasts were all aboard for the 40th annual Warminster Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday.

The exhibition at Warminster Sports Centre, put on by the Warminster and District Model Railway Club, attracted nearly 800 visitors who came to see model train layouts, trade stalls, live steam engines and a range of other displays.

Club chairman Eric Walford, a professional model engine builder, formed the group 40 years ago and organises the annual gathering every year.

The event, which has previously raised more than £16,000 for good causes, collected another £500 this year to be split equally between a number of charities including Save the Children, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Blue Cross Animal Homes and The Donkey Sanctuary.

Mr Walford said: “It was a very successful event compared to previous years and it has continually improved on the models displayed.

“Because of the size of the exhibition it could be said that it is one of the biggest shows in Wiltshire and we get people who travel from all over the country.”

There were more than 60 exhibitors and traders at this year’s event showcasing train models to the public, who were offered a free bus service to and from the venue.

The club has already booked the sports centre for next year’s exhibition on February 13.
