A world record attempt made by Corsham PCSO a for the longest continuous radio show has come to an end.

PCSO Byrne, 28, and radio station manager Will Bridger, 17, from Melksham Town Sound presented their show for 44 hours.

They were hoping to beat the 84-hour record by two DJs in Dubai in 2013 and were going to try 198 hours, the record set by Dutch DJ Giel Beelen last year.

They began their attempt on Saturday at 9am, only stopping for a short break every six hours to eat and sleep. The show was streamed live online for people to watch and listen to.

PCSO Byrne’s fiancé Jade Aldersley, 25, was on hand to bring him his meals.

But on Monday just before 5am the pair decided to hang up their headphones.

The PCSO, pictured, of Calne, said: “Unfortunately, it is with a sad and heavy heart that we have to cancel our world record attempt.

“It started at 9am and ended at 4.45am on Monday, lasting just under 44 hours of consecutive radio.

“I am very proud of what we have achieved and I thank everyone that donated to the cause. The money will go a long way to helping the WWF. For now, we regroup and go to sleep.”

The pair have received £334 so far. Donate at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Alan ByrneOnTheRun
