A man missing from Chippenham for almost a month had been camping in woods, police believe.

James Wilding, 35, was discovered by a member of the public knocking on the door of the Tunnel Inn at Coates, near Cirencester, on Sunday morning.

A police spokesman said: "An ambulance crew was called and, although wet and cold, James was found to be safe and well and was returned to his family that day by police after we had been called by the ambulance service.

"It's believed he had been camping in near by woods for a number of weeks."

A family spokesman said: "We are so very happy that James has been found safe and well - it's fantastic news that he is back with us.

"We would like to thank everyone who helped try and find James; all of those on social media, the Missing People's Charity, Wiltshire Police and the South Western Ambulance Service.  We are very grateful to you all."

The police spokesman added: "We are grateful to everyone who helped in trying to find James, it is great news he is safe and well and in the care of his family."
