POLICE have released CCTV images of a group of men wearing dark clothing and hoodies who they want to speak to after a supermarket was raided and cashpoint in Marlborough smashed.

Officers have confirmed they are linking both incidents at Fraser Budgens and Tesco in the early hours of Friday morning and have released CCTV images of the raid on Tesco.

It shows three men loading items from the cigarette kiosk into a large yellow bag. The CCTV footage also shows a red Jaguar X type vehicle in the area before the incident.

Officers were called to Tesco in Salisbury Road just before 4am after the store’s security alarm was triggered.

When police arrived, they discovered a window near the entrance had been smashed and the security shutters to the cigarette counter inside had been prised open, with a quantity of cigarettes missing.

At 5.53am, another raid was reported to police opposite Tesco at the cashpoint outside the Fraser Budgens store and petrol station.

The cash machine had been set alight and damaged with a crowbar so thieves could grab the money, the value of which has not yet been confirmed.

Forensic officers were at both businesses later that morning looking for evidence.

Budgens did not want to comment but a Tesco spokesman said: “We are co-operating with the police in their investigation and our store is open as normal for customers.”

Rewards of up to £25,000 are being offered for information relating to crime on ATM machines by the cash machine network LINK.

A spokesman said: “We’re urging the public to come forward with any information that they may have about cash machine crime, for example card skimming or physical attacks on cash machines themselves.

"Even something that may sound insignificant could be part of a bigger picture and prove invaluable in convicting someone involved in cash machine crime”.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
