CALNE Police are investigating two reports of cats being shot in the town with some form of air weapon.

Police were received the first report on June 28, which is thought to have occured in the Salmonds Leap area, when an owner advised them she had discovered an air weapon pellet in her pet.

A day later, police received a second report, this time from the Castle Street area.

The owner told the police she had found her cat limping and upon taking it to the vet found it had been shot twice by an air weapon pellet, once in the leg and one in the abdomen.

PCSO Mark Cook said: "I just don't understand why anyone would want to do anything of this nature to people's pets.

"With two reports from different parts of the town it's difficult to know where it is happening especially where cats roam so much."

Police are appealing for anyone with information which can assist them with their investigation to call 101 and ask for information to be passed to PCSO Mark Cook.

Alternatively information can be left anonmously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
