CHILDREN got in to the jubilee spirit as they put their creative skills to the test.

The youngsters took part in the first of a series of workshops at the Steam Museum next to the Royal Road Exhibition on the museum’s Station Platform.

Families dropped in throughout the day to take part in the fun and created hats, crowns and flags Today the celebrations will continue with cake decorating experts from the Cupcake Passion Company on hand to offer advice as families try their hand at the art of cupcake decorating between 10am and 4.30pm.

Coun Garry Perkins, the cabinet member for culture, said: “Children and their families are sure to have a lot of during this special week, making hats, crowns, flags and special cupcakes for the Queen’s diamond jubilee, as well as enjoying all the usual attractions at Steam.”
