JUBILEE celebrations continued in Swindon yesterday as hundreds headed to Buckhurst Field for an afternoon of activities.

Swindon Walcot and Parks Community Group (SWAP) and the Buckhurst Park Community Centre put on an event to mark the Jubilee and get ready for the Olympics.

Activities included a make a crown competition, Cadbury’s Spots and Stripes games, beat the clock to erect a tent, sack races, a skate board display and an Irish dancing performance.

Olympic hurdler Lesley-Ann Skeete was a special guest on the day along with South Swindon MP Robert Buckland and Olympic torch relay runner Nicky Parker.

Nicky said: “It is a brilliant day, it’s really good to see everyone come out.

“The day is about the Olympics as well as the jubilee and the whole point about the torch is letting people see it so I enjoy bringing it out and showing it off.

“The people have bee really friendly and they enjoyed seeing the torch.”

Lesley Anne Skeete and Mr Buckland were on hand as judges and handed prizes to winners.

John Brownlee, chairman of SWAP, said: “We have had a good turn-out, which is nice to see.

“An event like this is good because it gets people talking to each other and getting involved in the community.

Tracey Jones, 37, of Walcot, was there with her children, Jake and Millie. She said: “It’s good to have something like this on during the half term for the children. It is nice to see the community come out and support local events.”
