Saving the earth

| Richard Hallows |
THE practice of authors interviewing each other is not a common one for a reason - they're not great at it.
Whether it's down to a clash of egos or the habit of spouting opinions, rather than eliciting them, a Pinter doesn't generally make a very good Parkinson.
But happily this wasn't a problem when two eco-friendly writers were given the chance to quiz each other on their green views.
Both Catherine Von Ruhland, author of Living With The Planet, and Richard Hallows, the writer of Diary of a Reluctant Green, seemed genuinely interested in the ideas put forward by the other.
Catherine Von Ruhland's warnings that future wars will be fought over water and that the myopia of governments is not helping the situation, was a gloomy one. But her central message was one of hope and inspiration - that we can all make a difference - even if it often doesn't seem that way. The inspiration for Richard Hallows had more to do with halving his Tesco bill than saving the planet. His tale of a house husband seeking to do his bit for climate change while cutting costs, and hopefully losing weight, was funny and informative.
