Lit Fest 2008
Young poets stanza and deliver
FROM inter-galactic adventures to the witch at number six and teachers that make you sick, the fourth Swindon Youth Slam poetry event was certainly never boring.
Pupils from ten schools across Swindon competed to take home the Youth Slam Cup, by wowing the audience with stanza spinning skills.
After a fiercely fought, and wildly eclectic, series of heats and a final of the six most popular teams, the Grade A Girls were crowned champions.
The four girls from Commonweal School delighted the raucous crowd with a funny and intelligent poem on political parties.
The Youth Slam followed workshops run by seasoned slamsters Sara-Jane Arbury and Marcus Moore in schools across the region.
The project was managed by Josie Williams, community arts development officer, at Commonweal.
