Swindon Advertiser: Former Newcastle United footballer Nile Ranger has been charged with common assault

The jury at Newcastle Crown Court took an hour to find Swindon Town striker Nile Ranger not guilty of rape. Upon hearing the verdict Ranger banged the dock and said "Thank God for that" before tearing off his tie and walking out of court. Full story here.

Update on the accident on the A429. An elderly woman has been taken to GWH and a dog was killed. 


The jury has been sent out at Newcastle Crown Court in the case of Nile Ranger to consider its verdict.

The Swindon Town striker is accused of an alleged rape in the Jesmond district of the city last January. He denies the charge.

Fire services are at the scene of the crash on the A429 near the Chelworth crossroads to cut an elderly woman free from her car.

There is also a dog injured and a vet is also on scene. 


A429 is blocked both ways after an accident involving three vehicles at the Chelworth Crossroads. Emergency services at the scene as an 81-year-old woman is treated by paramedics. Full story here. Traffic updates here.

More on the death of former Royal Wootton Bassett mayor Percy Miles, 82.




The jury at Newcastle Crown Court is about to retire to consider its verdict in the case of Nile Ranger.

Former Royal Wootton Bassett Mayor Percy Miles, 82, who has died at the age of 82, was well known in the town. His funeral, a thanksgiving for his life, will take place next Tuesday, March 11, at Kingsdown Crematorium, 10.30am. Memorial donations will be appreciated for the Poppy Appeal.


We've just heard that Percy Miles, the only person to have been Mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett three times (1986, 2001 and 2006) has died at the age of 82.
