Cabinet member for children’s services Councillor Fionuala Foley (Con, Chiseldon and Lawn) has defended the council's decision to close half of the town's children's centres. She said: “With this move I have made sure the most vulnerable children will be protected. There are some areas where parents will have to travel further and for that I am sorry. But while it may be inconvenient they will still have access to a centre."

Police in North Swindon are hunting for three youths following an attempted robbery of a 15-year-old boy who was on crutches. The incident happened last night between 5.30pm and 6pm on the footpath adjacent to Oakhurst Way, near Fitwell Road.
