UPDATE: Missing man returns home safe and well

A MAN who has gone missing from his home in Shropshire and travelled to the Swindon area is being sought by police who are concerned for his welfare.

Damian McGrath has not made contact with his family in Shrewsbury since Monday. Police say he has connections in the Swindon area but is not carrying any means of communication.

Forty-five year-old Damian was last seen near the Aldi depot in South Marston at about 8pm on Monday.

Police have exhausted initial lines of enquiry and are appealing for Damian, or anyone who may have seen him in the area, to contact them as a matter of urgency.

Damian’s wife reported him missing and is becoming increasingly concerned as the behaviour is out of character for him.

Local CCTV is being reviewed and officers are liaising with transport companies and Damian’s family to ensure his safe return.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “Police in Swindon are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of a man who has not been seen since Monday.

“Enquiries are ongoing in the town to try and locate Mr McGrath, including the review of CCTV and enquiries with transport companies.”

Superintendent Andrew Carr said: “We are just concerned for the welfare of Mr McGrath. He was reported missing by his wife and we need to contact him and make sure he is safe and well.

“It is difficult because he does not seem to have a mobile phone with him. It is one of those situations where we have exhausted what we can usually do in these situations and need to reach out to him.

“He was reported missing on Monday night, and was last seen that we know of that evening in Swindon. He obviously has connections here and we just need for him to get in touch.”

Detective Sergeant Tom Straker, of Wiltshire Police, said: “We are liaising closely with Damian’s family, who are obviously concerned for his safety as this sort of behaviour is very out of character.

“That said, we would appeal directly to Damian to let us and his family know he is safe.

“As our enquiries continue we would ask that anyone who believes they may have seen Damian or has any information on his whereabouts to contact police on 101.”
