HOUSEBUILDER Taylor Wimpey is encouraging children to walk to school after donating high-visibility wristbands to pupils at East Wichel Community Primary School and Nursery.

The builder, which owns the development in East Wichel, is backing the campaign to stop the soaring numbers of younger people with childhood obesity and has given 60 wristbands to the school to encourage more youngsters to walk to school and increase their physical activity levels.

Nikki Gibson, associate sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our high-quality new homes, which is why we have donated high-visibility wristbands to East Wichel Community Primary School and Nursery.

“We understand that family life can be busy, but we hope our contribution will help inspire families to swap the car for a safe walk to school instead.”

Headteacher Caroline Henham said: “We encourage the children to walk to school to promote a healthier lifestyle and to reduce traffic outside the school.

“We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this generous donation which will help raise the profile of walking to school among pupils and parents alike.”
