THE A420 near South Marston was blocked in both directions yesterday after two articulated lorries and a car collided in the early afternoon.

At 1.30pm on the road leading towards Oxford, two lorries collided. One then slid across the road and strick a stationary Volkswagen Polo which had applied its brakes.

The male car driver was unhurt and the occupants of both lorries were also uninjured, but police closed the road in both directions for two hours and congestion built up.

Damage to the car and at least one of the lorries meant they had to be recovered from the roadside and police blocked the road while this was done.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called at 1.28pm to a road traffic collision on the A420 involving two lorries and a car.

“There were no injuries to anyone involved but the road was completely blocked in both directions.

“One of the lorries at least would have to be recovered as well as the car involved, which was a Volkswagen Polo.”
