SHE may have her own driver for special events, but Mayor of Swindon Teresa Page was keen to open a new store for motorists.

Coun Page officially opened the new Halfords Autocentre, at Fleming Way Retail Park, which has created six new jobs for the town.

And she was somewhat dwarfed by some of the technicians as she toured the store, speaking to them about their training and the common repairs they carry out, as well as how hi-tech fault-finding equipment is used on modern vehicles.

The Autocentre represents a six-figure investment by the independent garage chain and has created six local jobs.

Coun Page said: “It is a privilege to open the new Halfords Autocentre here in Swindon. I’m delighted that it will not only bring employment to our community, but means local drivers have an affordable alternative of where to have their car serviced or repaired.

"I would like to extend my best wishes for the future to the team.’’

Kieran Logan, manager, said: “It is fantastic to be opening our latest Halfords Autocentre at Fleming Way Retail Park in Swindon.

“We already have a great track record in the area and this new centre further strengths our commitment to delivering quality work at affordable prices.

“Our team is qualified to the highest standard and we have the expertise to work on any make or model of car, as well as light commercial vehicles - providing a reliable, trustworthy but less expensive alternative to franchised garages.”
