‘FOR England and St George’ will be the cry at celebrations in Swindon this month.

A series of events have been arranged for the week surrounding St George’s Day, which falls on Thursday, April 23, with traders across the town gearing up to showcase the best of British.

And among events organised by businesses honouring the patron saint of England, a knight will ride through Regents Circus on horseback at the head of a St George’s Day procession.

The procession will feature children from town schools and the Mayor of Swindon, Coun Teresa Page, is also expected to attend.

Swindon has been long associated with marking St George’s Day and this year inSwindon, the town centre management company, has picked up the mantle to give the celebrations a traditional feel.

Business Improvement District (BID) manager, Di Powell, said the events would be a true celebration of the day.

“It’s only right that Swindon marks St George’s Day in this fashion with pageantry and a procession,” she said.

“We’re delighted that traders are joining the occasion by participating in a fantastic St George’s Treasure Trail with some excellent prizes up for grabs.”

A total of 92 shops will be taking part during a week-long St George’s Treasure Trail which starts on Saturday and closes at midnight on Sunday, April 26.

All eagle-eyed shoppers have to do is to spot window items which should not be there from one of the many shops carrying a St George’s Day logo in their store front.

Spot as many as you can, and deliver your answers to collection boxes which are stationed at both the Brunel Centre and the Central Library.

A draw of the answers featuring at least 15 treasure trail discoveries will be made on April 27 for the chance to win a selection of prizes.

Treasure hunt entry forms and maps will be available from the Central Library and the Brunel Centre.

The forms are also available online from www.swindontowncentre.co.uk.
