THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for Prospect Hospice as hundreds of people turned out for the annual Starlight Walk.

Fundraisers pulled on their best neon and walked through the night over 10km or 15km to raise money for the Wroughton charity.

Among those taking part in the moonlit trek were four sisters taking part in memory of a fifth sister who died at the hospice.

Kim Goldfinch, Sadie Corbridge, Sam Corbridge and Natasha Benwell, raised around £1,800 between them as they completed the 15km route in less than three hours.

“A lot of it came from work, close family and friends. That was the same for all of us. People around us who knew my sister gave a little bit more,” said Kim, a 35-year-old nurse of Sywell Road, Swindon.

She said she was touched by the warmth of all the people she met along the way, as walkers shared stories of why they were raising money.

“It’s really nice because everyone chats with everyone. As people pass you or you pass them, you have chat,” she said.

“It’s a really nice atmosphere and we got chatting to quite a few people.

“It’s a good one. I have done Race for Life before. That’s only 5km, which is all good when you’re raising money, but we wanted to go that bit extra because of why we were doing it.

“It felt a lot more worthwhile. Although it’s a walk, it’s still a long way.”

The route began and ended at Croft Leisure Centre, taking in Broome Manor Golf Club, Lawn, Prospect Hospice, Ridgeway School, Wichelstowe and the Town Gardens.
