NINE artists will each display their work as part of Every Cloud Arts and Crafts group's exhibition during the Swindon Open Studios event.

Now in its eight year, more than 50 artists are taking part in this year's event, showcasing their work across 39 locations during the first two weekends of this month.

The Every Cloud group will display their work from Stanton Farmhouse in Stanton Park between 10.30am and 3.30pm on September 5 and 6 and again on September 12 and 13.

Work ranges from hangings, cards and jewellery to woodcarving, prints and metalwork set against the beautiful farmland backdrop, and visitors will even have a chance to enjoy tea and cake while they visit.

Jenny Howell, who works in textiles to create felting and stithes hangings, first started doing artwork as a child.

"I loved art as a child," she said.

"After being widowed my art, and helping others to discover the value of art has helped to fill the vacuum.

"I'm inspired by other artists, nature, photographs, magazine pictures and my favourite artists are the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, particularly van Gogh, Monet, and Degas.

" I moved to Swindon to be near my daughter, and now I love the green spaces where I live in Liden, and the connection with the surrounding countryside.

"When I'm not creating art I look after my grandchildren and volunteer at Twigs and Every Cloud.

"Art Therapy offers mutual encouragement , inspiration and ideas. Helping others has inspired me to do my own work."

Nature is Karen Holman's greatest inspiration for her wall-hung creations from recycled materials

"I also use Pinterest where I get many ideas for developing my own," she said. "It is a library of inspiration, where all sorts of artist share their ideas and techniques.

"I’m a bit of an insomniac, so my “day” is not clearly defined. I could be on the computer at one o’clock in the morning. I help my partner with painting and decorating, and my sister with her catering business, as well a creating my art.

"Really came to art in the past 5 years through being a member of Twigs."

Gill Robinson is another artist with Every Cloud who works in felt, creating anything from bags to wall hangings.

"Nature, colours, form, experimentation inspire my work," she said.

"My artistic parents created an environment where art played an important part of our lives.

"The best thing about living in Swindon is the easy access to all parts of the country and countryside. The support of inspirational groups of people."

Meanwhile Rhiannon Holbrook works in pyrography, creating designs on wood with electric needle.

"I buy wooden boxes and picture frames, but also use reclaimed wood as much as possible to create decorative panels, coasters, table mats," she said.

"I have created menu boards and signage for the Olive Tree café at Twigs.

"I'm inspired by geometric designs, Indian mandalas. I would like to create a large collection and be remembered for my art work.

"I suffered from depression, and now my art has helped me find a balance in my life."
