JUDGES of the VisitWiltshire Photo Competition have revealed how impressed they have been with the first early entries they have received as they enter their second month of accepting submissions.

The competition, run with the support of the Swindon Advertiser and its sister titles, is seeking to capture some of the stunning scenes the county has to offer.

Launched at the beginning of May, photographers from all corners of the county have already been out busy snapping eye-catching and inspiring images of Springtime in Wiltshire.

Among them is Bill Riley from Bradford on Avon who has captured images of Barton Bridge and Town Bridge in the town as well as scenes from further afield at Castle Combe and Stonehenge.

Peter Daltrey from Devizes has also submitted photographs captured at landmarks such as Avebury and Lacock Abbey as well as scenes captured on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Andrew Stevens from Bradford on Avon has also been inspired by the Kennet and Avon Canal with his submissions, whil entries have also been sent in from John Newbury in Salisbury and Michaela Gainey from Swindon.

Jenny Butler, VisitWiltshire’s marketing services manager, said the team was really looking forward to seeing what breath-taking images photographers in the county would come up with next. She said: “Our 2016 Photo Competition has got off to a cracking start and we have been very impressed by the high standard of entries submitted so far.

“This year, of course, each entrant can send in up to five images per calendar month and as we head into June there should be plenty of inspiration for keen photographers around the county – I’m sure we will receive some lovely images over the next few weeks and I can’t wait to see them.”

The competition will run right through the summer until September 30, and each photographer can submit up to five photographs each month.

To be in with a chance of winning, the photos should capture the essence of life in Wiltshire, its people and landscape, and tie in with any of VisitWiltshire's four ‘Timeless’ themes. These are:

• Timeless Wonders: including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, the Kennet & Avon Canal and Wiltshire’s White Horses

• Timeless Places: including market towns, villages and other attractions

• Timeless Pleasures: including shopping, food and drink, festivals & events, arts & entertainment

• Timeless Nature: including big skies, rolling hills, flora and fauna

There will be one first prize of a £300 voucher for the best photograph overall, plus two runners up prizes of a £50 voucher each.
