THE Aldbourne Band recently competed in the finals of the National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall. They finished in ninth place out of 20 bands, achieving their highest ever position in this competition in their 156 year history.

Accompanying the band and their families was a separate coach of supporters from the village who heard the band’s stunning performance of the test piece “the Journey of the Lone Wolf” under the musical direction of David Johnson.

" It was an historic day for band members and supporters alike, one which will be remembered for many years," said Janet Roe, publicity officer for the Aldbourne Band.

The village band is now the highest ranking amateur band in Great Britain.

Members of the band come together from all over the county to play, including four musicians from Swindon.

The Aldbourne Band are next in public the weekend of October 21-23 when they will be hosting a Conductor’s Course, again under the direction of MD David Johnson.

the Sunday afternoon at 5pm in St. Michael’s Church, Aldbourne there will be an end of course concert when all eight attendees will introduce and conduct a piece they have been studying over the weekend.

Tickets are £5 for adults with children free and will be available at the door. Wine and soft drinks will also be served.
