A NURSERY that aims to provide flexible childcare for working parents, while also helping vulnerable families in the town, has opened for business.

Children and families gathered in Kembrey Park to celebrate the opening of the Panda Day Nursery which offers childcare sessions all year round.

The nursery is the second early years venture to be managed by the West Swindon Family Centre, a children’s charity which has been based in the town for more than 20 years,

Childrens’ author Jane Evans, who is a patron of the charity, had the honour of cutting the ribbon at the opening.

Parenting expert Jane, as seen on ITV’s This Morning and Channel 5’s My Violent Child, said because the nursery is not-for-profit, the money raised through children attending will benefit others less fortunate in the town.

She said providing quality, child-focused care to 0 to three-year-olds has a massive benefit to their development.

“And by coming here, the money will support the ongoing work in the community,” she said.

“I came here when the charity had just taken the building on and it was just a shell. To come back and see this beautiful centre which is a friendly environment for children is just wonderful.”

Panda Day Nursery received its Ofsted registration in January and has been taking inquiries and registrations from parents over the last few weeks to fill the 26 spaces available.

The West Swindon Family Centre also runs a successful pre-school in Freshbrook. Both settings will now operate under the new Panda Childcare social business banner.

Janet Donnelly, the area manager for Panda Childcare, said: “For professionals working in Kembrey Park, families living nearby and parents commuting into Swindon from the north, we think the nursery will offer them the convenient and practical childcare solution they are looking for.”

“For me, my big focus is on quality assurance and putting the worries of parents to rest.

“It is a really exciting time for us especially as we are extending the provision we already have in Swindon and hopefully, we plan to replicate our success at the pre-school here at the day nursery.”
