OPPORTUNIST thieves struck twice in quick succession on Wednesday as they targeted cars in the town centre.

Andrew Kumar parked his Audi A3 in Spring Gardens at around 6pm before heading into the nearby Kiss Gym.

He was only gone for 45 minutes but when he returned he found that his window had been smashed and a bag stolen.

A Renault Clio was also broken into on the same street and a handbag stolen.

Andrew, 20, said: “The crazy thing is that it’s a busy street - there are people driving and walking along it all the time. They obviously didn’t care and they must have been very quick.

“I didn’t think twice about my bag being on display with all those people passing by, but I definitely will in future.”

But Andrew also urged Kiss Gym to do more to find a parking solution for members in light of recent changes to parking in the area. He suggested that they explore a deal for the use of the adjacent multi storey car park with the council.

Wiltshire Police officers are investigating the thefts. A spokesman said: “Don’t leave any valuables on display including laptops, satnavs, mobile phones, handbags, credit cards or vehicle documents in your vehicle.

“If it is unavoidable – place them in the boot and ensure that any electrical equipment is switched off.”
