A BALACLAVA-clad robber is still at large three weeks after he hit a struggling Old Town social club last month.

The man is said to have snuck into the main bar at The Cycle Club on Dixon Street on Friday July 28, at 11.45pm.

He demanded cash from the barman, who was locking up for the night.

The balaclava-wearing robber was described as between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall, wearing black woolly gloves, a black hooded top and blue tracksuit.

Renewing their appeal for witnesses, a Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “This is a residential street, someone must have heard or seen something.

“If that was you, please come forward and call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.”

Earlier this week it was revealed that the historic Cycle Club is set to close at the end of the month – more than 120 years after it was first established.

The club will shut its doors for the final time on Bank Holiday Monday.

In 2012, club organisers appealed for new members to join the historic social club.

Club secretary Mick Lewis told the Adver: “We’re just keeping our heads above water at the moment.

“But obviously costs are going to increase and if things don’t improve then we would have to look at closing it. We don’t want to do that.”

No one from the club was available for comment on the closure earlier this week.

However, Cycle Club member Paul Healey said: “It is a pity, especially for some of the older folk who play bingo.”

He believed the club had been under pressure financially for a while, especially from nearby clubs and people choosing to drink at home.

It is not known whether the recent robbery contributed to the club’s demise.
