POLICE are appealing for information to help identify a cyclist they'd like to speak to in relation to an assault on a motorist.

At around 1pm on Tuesday, September 12, an unknown man was cycling the wrong way down Commercial Road when he collided with a car.

The suspect then kicked and threw his bike at the car causing scratches and dents to three panels.

He then opened the driver's door and punched him three times to the face.

The cyclist then walked off leaving his damaged pushbike behind.

The victim received injuries to his jaw and the side of his face.

PC Bryan Rumbold said: "This was a particularly nasty, unprovoked attack on this driver.

"This was in broad daylight, in the middle of a busy part of town, so someone must have seen something suspicious, or perhaps the incident itself.

"If that is you, please come forward."

If you can help with enquiries, please contact PC Bryan Rumbold on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
