A NHS administrator for whom “nothing is too big a task” has been put forward for a top hospital award.

Sophie Wilkins, a business support advisor at the Great Western Hospital’s speech and language therapy service, was nominated by her colleagues.

She was shortlisted in the Admin and Clerical category of top NHS prize the Unsung Hero Awards.

Sophie will travel to an awards ceremony in Manchester next month, where she will learn whether or not she has claimed the prize.

She said she was “really chuffed” by the nomination.

“It’s lovely to know that people appreciate what you do,” said Sophie. “Like so many people, I just do my job and never think about it.”

Beccy Richardson, a speech and language therapist at GWH who put Sophie forward for the award, said: “We just wanted to say thank you to Sophie as she’s done so much for us as a team.

“She goes above and beyond to help everyone and is the glue that holds us all together.”

In the nomination papers, her GWH colleagues describe Sophie as an “essential” part of the department – organising fundraising events and “keeping the office in check”.

They say: “Nothing is too by a task for Sophie and she is always willing to help. She does everything with a smile on her face.

“It’s time she knew how important and appreciated she is.”

Now in its third year, the Unsung Hero Awards recognise people working in the health system.

Previous winners have included Muslim chaplain Rehanah Sadiq and Stockport hospital security guards Andy Tobin and Ali Jallow.
